NTCC Psi Beta honor society inducts new members

Northeast Texas Community College recently inducted new members into Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for students at two-year colleges. Inductees honored at the ceremony included (from left): Jazmin Solis of Omaha, Celsie Williams of Mount Pleasant, Rylee Ramirez of Pittsburg, Britany Lee of Mount Vernon, Chelsey Fuller of Mount Pleasant, Haley Fennewald of Mount Pleasant, Hannah Dickson of Pittsburg, and Leni Chaves of Mount Pleasant.

Men's soccer move up in rankings

After an impressive 2-1 win over #1 Tyler Junior College last Friday the men's soccer team has moved up in this week's NJCAA Division 1 Soccer Rankings. Previously ranked at #15 the Eagles are now sitting at #5 in this week's rankings. The Eagles are also ranked #3 in the United Soccer Coaches Junior College rankings this week (previously #8).

Iris Society presents scholarship to NTCC Ag student

The Piney Woods Iris Society of Mount Pleasant met at their regular meeting Monday, Oct. 15 to present Northeast Texas Community College student Jan Shirley with a $500 scholarship. Shirley was nominated by René McCracken, NTCC Director of Agriculture. She was highly recommended for the scholarship and she hopes to finish her degree in horticulture. The Iris Society presents scholarship funds each year to help someone interested in the horticulture field.

Honors presents panel at East Texas Historical Association

For the first time in the history of the college, NTCC students, in this case, three Presidential Scholars, comprised the panel of a professional association.  At the recent meeting of the 2018 East Texas Historical Association in Nacogdoches, 11-13 October, Jordan Whelchel (left), Matthew Chambers, and Karla Fuentes all presented major essays in Texas history.  Dr. Andrew P. Yox, Honors Director, chaired the all-NTCC panel.

Alpha Mu Chi attends Texas Regional Leadership Conference

Members of Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College’s five-star, award-winning chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, attended and participated in the Texas Regional Leadership Conference held at East Texas Baptist University October 12-14. A total of 381 members from throughout the Texas Region gathered together to listen to thought-provoking presentations on leadership, engage in interactive skill building activities, and participate in seminar group discussions.
