Northeast Texas Community College softball (14-24, 9-13) swept the Trinity Valley Cardinals (20-19, 9-13) in a doubleheader this week. The Eagles won the first game 11-1 and then game two 4-1.
NTCC got things started in the first inning of game one when Macee Hollins walked and scored on a triple by Ramzi Smith (East Texas Baptist University). Smith would score on a double by Shelby Baker (Hardin Simmons University) to take a 2-0 lead and never look back.
The Eagles added two more runs in the second inning and another run in the third inning to go up 5-0.
The Eagle offense scored six runs in the fourth inning to put the game away for good. Korbyn Bassett, Haylee Wilson, Conci Adame, Brooklynn Manes, and Blakelea Nettles each drove in runs during the inning.
Jamie Franks (Hardin Simmons University) took the circle for NTCC and went the distance in a dominating performance on for the Eagles. Franks only allowed three hits and one run while striking out two with no walks.
The Eagle hitters tallied 11 hits in the game. Manes, Baker, and Adame each managed two hits and Manes would have three RBI’s to lead the offensive attack in game one for NTCC.
In game twoNTCC defeated the Cardinals 4-1 in the second game of the day. The Eagles surrendered one run in the top of the first, but jump right back scoring two runs to set the tone in game two of the day.
Blakelea Nettles led off with a single and stole second base. Nettles moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ramzi Smith (ETBU). Shelby Baker (HSU) homered to center field to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Kara Carter got the game two start for NTCC. Carter allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.
The Eagle’s hitting attack racked up seven hits in the game. Baker and Korbyn Bassett each collected multiple hits for Eagle Softball. Smith led the team with two RBI’s in game two action.
