Foundation names Al and Sue Havenstrite Distinguished Benefactors

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation presented Al and Sue Havenstrite with the Distinguished Benefactor Award during the annual Scholarship Brunch on Friday, Nov. 2. 

The Havenstrites began supporting NTCC shortly after retiring to the area in 1996. Having raised their family and spent their careers in Arlington, the couple decided to move back to Sue’s hometown of Mount Pleasant to enjoy a slower pace away from the city. 

Cypress Bank provides honors student with laptop

For the eleventh straight year since 2008, Cypress Bank has presented a high-end MacBook laptop for the use of Northeast Texas Community College honors students.  This year’s recipient is Miguel Paco.  He is a recent graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and Presidential Scholar at NTCC, who has been active in Honors and Alpha Mu Chi activities.  Paco majors in physics.

Student survey winners announced

All students enrolled at NTCC were invited to complete a national survey (The Student Financial Wellness Survey) to document the financial well-being of our students and how it impacts their ability to successfully achieve their college goals.  Three students who completed the survey were randomly selected to receive a $100 gift card to the NTCC College Store.  The students are Hannah Fouche (right) and Michelle Solo (center), and Janet Johnson (not pictured). Foundation hosts annual Golf Classic

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation held its annual Golf Classic Monday, Oct. 22 at Princedale Country Club in Pittsburg. The tournament raised more than $5,000 to support the NTCC Work Scholarship Program.

The tournament ended in a tie with the Cypress Bank and Daingerfield Country Club teams both shooting 15 under. After a scorecard tie breaker, Daingerfield Country Club was declared the official winner.

Jazmin Garcia wins Walter B Cooper Scholarship

Jazmin Garcia, a student in the Honors Program at Northeast Texas Community College and a graduate from Mount Pleasant High School, recently received the Walter B Cooper Scholarship at the Texas Leadership Conference. The Phi Theta Kappa conference, held on the campus of East Texas Baptist University, concluded by announcing five winners from across the state of Texas. The Walter B Cooper Scholarship recognizes outstanding students who are “well-rounded” in the four Hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship.
