The Celtic Tenors to perform holiday show at the Whatley Center

The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College is pleased to present a holiday performance by The Celtic Tenors Monday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. This festive show, sponsored by Cypress Bank, is sure to get you into the spirit of the season as they deliver some of your favorite holiday songs in their innovative style.

The Celtic Tenors have established themselves as the most successful classical crossover artists ever to emerge from Ireland.

Quilt exhibit on display in the Whatley Center foyer

Quilts by local quilters hang in the Whatley Center foyer in what is now an annual tradition for the NTCC art department.† For the second consecutive year, quilters bring their treasured quilts to share with the community. The exhibit runs from Monday, Nov. 6 through Wednesday, Nov. 29. A reception is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 at 12:30 p.m. in the Whatley Center foyer, and refreshments will be served.

Seven quilters brought 25 quilts for this exhibit, which is titled†Beyond the Rail Fence.

Winter Forage Field Day at NTCC Farm

Early fall-winter forage production is particularly valuable as it allows flexibility for earlier grazing or increased stockpiling. The goal of the Noble Research Institute?s small grains breeding program is to develop cultivars with improved forage qualities, better fall production, improved ability to recover after grazing and better overall forage yields. Come see six of the new small grain varieties, selected for increased early season forage yields, recently released by the Noble Research Institute

Thomas and April Bliss establish NTCC scholarships

Thomas and April Bliss recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with $2,000 to establish two scholarships. The Sharon Bliss Memorial scholarship is in memory of Thomas? mother,†who had a long career as a respiratory therapist.†This scholarship†will benefit a student studying health sciences at NTCC. The Bradyn Dawn Loy Memorial Scholarship†was established†in memory of the Mount Vernon High School student and friend of the Bliss family who passed away last year.

NTCC nursing earns high pass rates, gains full approval from Texas Board of Nursing

The Northeast Texas Community College Associate?s Degree Nursing (ADN) Program recently learned that it achieved a passing rate of 89.1 percent on the NCLEX board of nursing exam. This marked a significant improvement†over the last three testing years†and moved the program from conditional status back into full approval with the Texas Board of Nursing.

CIS Day planned for Nov. 18th in Mt. Pleasant

The Communities In Schools group is coordinating †?CIS DAY?†to raise funds to support the CIS Believes In Dreams Christmas Project and other CIS activities and services.† Last year with this project, we served over 1,400 students and their siblings for Christmas and the numbers will be even higher this year.

    NTCC, A&M-Texarkana partner with Titus County Cares

    Texas A&M University-Texarkana at Northeast Texas Community College and Northeast Texas Community College have partnered with students and student leaders on campus to collect plastic bags to be donated to Titus County Cares.

    Judy Lee, chairman of the Titus County Cares Board of Directors, said the organization is in tremendous need of bags to meet the demand of the organization?s Food†Pantry†and weekend food program for children in the area.

    Honors group presents to Webb Society

    Five Northeast Texas Community College honors freshman recently presented the trailer of their new film on Mary Kay at the annual fall meeting of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society. The Webb Society is the collegiate auxiliary of the Texas State Historical Association.

    Warren Wu, Rhylie Anderson, Jordan Whelchel, Karsen Nelson, and Matthew Chambers (pictured from left) have all taken major roles in the production of the film, due for a premiere this February.

    NTCC to host college fair Nov. 13

    The Annual Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO) College Fair, sponsored by Northeast Texas Community College, is set for Monday, Nov.†13†in the Student Union Building at NTCC.

    Colleges and universities will have representatives on hand from†1-3 p.m. to provide admissions and financial aid information to students and their parents. Anyone interested in learning more about college - from junior high to current college students and their families - are invited to attend.
