Faculty host 25th Annual Student Awards Banquet

The Northeast Texas Community College Faculty Senate held its 25th Annual Student Awards Banquet†Thursday night at the Region 8 service center. NTCC Agriculture wins big at state competition

Students in the Northeast Texas Community College Agriculture Department won big last week as they took home multiple awards from the Texas Junior College Agriculture Association (TJCAA) Competition at Sam Houston State University.

Michael Rundle placed third in Horticulture Quiz, third in Wildlife Quiz and second in Agronomy. Rundle also served as Vice President of State Officers at the event.

NTCC Leads Nation in Guistwhite Awards

Lone Star College in the greater Houston has over 90,000 students, and may be the eighth-largest institution of higher learning in the United States.† It has won three of the 105 prestigious Guistwhite Scholarships of Phi Theta Kappa that have been bestowed since the award?s website began recording this information in 2011.† Mesa Community College, a bellwether two-year institution in Arizona, has less students, but has gained four winners.

Chesney Davis wins District III VP for Alpha Mu Chi

Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College?s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, successfully campaigned for the Texas Region District III Vice-President position at the regional convention earlier this spring. After the chapter won the position, elections were held within the chapter to determine which member would represent the chapter. Chesney Davis won that election and will represent the chapter as Vice President.

Honors students present at GPHC

Thanks to a generous grant, creative conceptualizing, and a good amount of student-to-faculty interfacing, 12 members of Honors Northeast at Northeast Texas Community College won invitations to present work at the recent meeting of the Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC) at Lamar University in Beaumont.†The GPHC has functioned since 1975 as the regional arm of the National Collegiate Honors Council, joining university and college honors programs from Nebraska and Missouri to Texas.

Cassidy Watkins wins Chitsey Award

Northeast Texas Community College student, Cassidy Watkins, was recently named the winner of the 2016-2017 Chitsey Award, granted annually to the student of Honors Northeast who most exceeded expectations. Dr. Mary Hearron (right) recently presented Watkins with this $200 award.

Watkinswas the 2016 Salutatorian of Daingerfield High School.† She has excelled in her two honors seminars, and in her other NTCC classes to date.† She is also the producer of the 2017 Honors film on Sam Houston, and the exodus of the Texas Cherokee.

Theatre Northeast to perform April 27-30

Theatre Northeast, the student theatre group of Northeast Texas Community College, will present variety of monologues, scenes, songs, dramatic readings and a short play on-stage in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts April 27-30. The Thursday through Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 2:05 p.m.

?We're trying something a little different for our last show of the school year.† I'm excited for our audience to see the scope of talent Northeast students have,? Martin Holden, Director of Theatre Northeast, said.

College Store closed April 17-21

The NTCC College Store will be closed April 17-21 while they move to their new location in the Student Union Building.†The copy center will also be closed. Outgoing mail will still be metered and a box will be placed in the Student Services mail room. Students may purchase scantrons, blue books and pencils in the Student Services building during the closure.

Nursing inducts 28 into Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society

The Northeast Texas Community College Associate Degree Nursing program recently inducted 28 students into its Gamma Omicron Chapter of the Alpha Delta Nu Honor Society. Alpha Delta Nu recognizes the academic excellence of students in the study of Associate Degree Nursing. The selective society requires that students have at least a 3.0 GPA in nursing classes and be recommended by faculty. The 2017 inductees are pictured above (from left).
