The Adult Education Department at Northeast Texas Community College is looking for dedicated students who would like to advance their earning potential by completing the General Education Development (GED) program. NTCC offers free classes in a variety of locations to help students develop the skills necessary to pass the GED exam and receive a high school equivalency diploma.

Scott Wilhite, a student at Northeast Texas Community College, has been selected by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society to receive a $1,500 scholarship as the 2015 Dr. Mary Hood Texas Region Scholar.
A father of three children, Wilhite enrolled in college after being laid off from his job. A political science major, he earned a 3.92 grade point average at Northeast Texas Community College and became a member of Phi Theta Kappa. In addition to his work within the chapter, Wilhite took on a role coordinating a work scholarship program for NTCC†this summer.
The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will host a new gallery exhibit October 6-30 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The exhibit, entitled Refined by Fire, will feature pottery by Karen Lowrey. Lowrey is†a potter and sculptor from Longview who creates one-of-a-kind hand made vessels.
Northeast Texas Community College held a commencement ceremony for cadets who completed the Northeast Evening Police Academy on September 23. Fourteen students completed the program, which offers flexible evening classes that allow working adults to train to become certified peace officers with the†Texas Commission on Law Enforce≠ment (TCOLE).
The Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education Department has a full slate of classes scheduled for this fall. The Northeast Texas Community College Culinary Arts Program will host two public dinners this fall on October 15 and 29. The events will be held at the NTCC Culinary Arts School in historic downtown Pittsburg and seating begins at 6 p.m.†
The meal is first-come-first-served and no reservations will be accepted. The cost is $12 per person. Seating is limited to 80 guests.
Friendship, nostalgia, and natural beauty emerged as dominant themes at the Eighth†Annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest and Reading, which was recently held in the Whatley Center at Northeast Texas Community College.
The Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC) Auxiliary recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with $4,500, which will provide six $750 scholarships to benefit students at NTCC majoring in an allied health field. A Northeast Texas Community College sophomore has been named a 2015 Coca-Cola Leader of Promise by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
The Northeast Texas Community College Health Sciences division recently hosted a pinning ceremony to celebrate students completing coursework in Vocational Nursing. Twelve students completed the program and are now eligible to sit for state boards to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
