NTCC is pleased to announce that the Health Science Admin Team (Renee Tomlin, Nicole Walker and Bree McAdams) has been nominated for this week’s Summer Shout Out. In addition to their usual workloads, these ladies stepped up during the COVID-19 crisis to work on the front lines to help safely bring students and employees back to campus.

Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America, a national nonpartisan nonprofit organization, visited the NTCC campus Wednesday. The visit was part of a coast-to-coast journey this summer to shine a light on the continuing national hunger crisis, to meet with those working on the front lines of hunger, and to advocate for long-term, public policy solutions to food insecurity. In addition to visiting the NTCC CARE Center (formerly Eagle Pantry), Berg also visited sites in Mount Pleasant and Daingerfield.

Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education Department is pleased to announce that eight students graduated from 2021 Firefighter Academy on Monday, July 19. A commencement ceremony was held and Russ Marshall, Fire Chief of the Athens Fire Department, was the guest speaker.

The connection of the auto-racer/developer Carroll Shelby to the preeminent American muscle cars of the pre-regulation era, before 1970, makes him iconic still in American automotive history.  The most expensive American car ever sold in an auction was a Shelby Cobra, which netted 14 million dollars, in 2016.  In 2019, the Academy-Award-winning sports drama film, Ford v Ferrari, featured star actor, Matt Damon, playing the role of Shelby.

The NTCC Career and Transfer Center will host two special events next week. On Wednesday, July 28 a recruiter from UT Tyler will be in the Career and Transfer Center (BT ?) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. NTCC students who are interested in transferring to UT Tyler are encouraged to stop by and apply. The university is waiving the application fee for those who apply during the event.

NTCC’s Continuing Education and Corporate Training department is pleased to announce our first Senior Adult conference for seniors 55 and up.  The conference will be held on August 20th, 2021 in the Whatley Center on the NTCC campus, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

More than 70 students from the NTCC Work4College Program participated in Mad City reality simulation fair this Wednesday. The event, hosted by NET Credit Union, is an exciting, interactive exercise to help students learn more about managing their personal finances.
