The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a gift of $4,000 from the Pittsburg High School Class of 1964. The gift will provide scholarships for welding students at NTCC. The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department is currently hosting its first exhibit of the 2021-2022 season in the foyer gallery of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The exhibit features paintings in oil by Mileah Hall and will be on display through September 23.
For the 14th straight year, since 2008, Cypress Bank has presented a high-end laptop for the use of Northeast Texas Community College honors students. This year’s Cypress Bank Scholar is Maiko Estrada. He is the son of José, and Maria Estrada of Mount Pleasant. A graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, Estrada was a member of the National Honor Society and Mount Pleasant Band. He already has distinguished himself as a member of Honors Northeast, playing important roles in the upcoming Carroll Shelby film, and becoming a finalist in the Northeast Texas poetry competition.

Northeast Texas Community College will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6 in observation of Labor Day. Offices will reopen and classes will resume their regular schedules on Tuesday, Sept. 7. As we approach our 3rd week of the Fall semester, the SGA team is gearing up to execute a successful Backyard Bash Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 6 pm. The purpose of this event is to encourage unity on campus through a fun-filled picnic-style event. Throughout this event, the SGA team will have everyone check-in at the entrance gates, get their free wing baskets (first 60 people) and their hamburger baskets. After the guests have gotten comfortable in their seats, the SGA team will be announced, athletic coaches will share insights on their teams and we will hear a word from Dr. Clinton.
The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a $100,000 anonymous donation to support the Work4College Program. The funds will be used to cover student scholarships and operating costs for NTCC’s unique summer work program. In 2021, the program’s eighth year, more than 80 students completed over 12,000 hours of work on campus and at participating local schools. John Gregory Rodriguez, of Mount Pleasant, has become the 2021 Texas Heritage National Bank (THNB) Scholar of Northeast Texas Community College. This $4,000 scholarship goes to a top Presidential Scholar of the NTCC Honors Program. Rodriguez, will inherit this prestigious designation from other previous vanguard students of NTCC such as Jordan Whelchel, who went on to Rice University; and Emmalea Shaw, now working on her doctorate in physical therapy at the North Texas State medical campus in Fort Worth.
The Northeast Texas Community College baseball team hit the field this past week to start fall baseball practices and wasted no time in getting involved in the community. The City of Mount Pleasant held a Cinco de Mayo festival downtown on Saturday, August 28th since the original festival was canceled in the spring due to COVID restrictions.
