PTK students with pink ribbons

Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College's Phi Theta Kappa chapter, placed pink ribbons around campus in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month earlier this week. Their goal was to help raise awareness of breast cancer on campus and to support those who have been affected by the disease.

Awareness is important because, according to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.  When breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.

This is just a reminder of the Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Rodeo to be held this Friday and Saturday at the Mount Pleasant Rodeo Association Priefert Arena on Greenhill Road in Mount Pleasant. I am attaching the poster with the times if you would like to come out and check out the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Southern Region Schools compete for a chance to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo. The MPRA Priefert Arena provides great viewing and photography locations for you to get some great shots of the athletes in action.

My name is Andy Morgan, and I am Head Baseball Coach at Northeast Texas Community College. We are extremely excited about this group of young men we have on campus this year. Our goal is to help develop our student-athletes in four main areas. We are going to help develop them into the best men that they can be, the best students they can be, the best baseball players they can be, and the best teammates they can be. We are going to accomplish these goals through hard work, selflessness, accountability, and commitment.

The fall semester and practice have started and things are going great. Along with a strong team on the field, it also takes a high level of support from alumni, fans, and the community to make a program successful. We recently began an online fundraising campaign to help support our team. (Click here to view fundraising page)
