CLEP

(College Level Examination Program)

Starting January 1, 2014, all Clep exam payments must be made by test-takers online through the My Account registration portal.

The CLEP tests provide an opportunity for students to earn college credit through examination. CLEP exams measure college-level achievement in specific course areas. There are 35 different examinations offered; each with 90 minutes in time limit. CLEP exams are administered using a computer-delivered system. Computerization offers many benefits, including more flexible test scheduling, instantaneous scoring and credit-granting decisions, and enhanced test-development processes. CLEP delivers big savings in both time and money.

  • Appointments must be scheduled by calling the Testing Office at (903) 434-8273. Examinees will receive unofficial score reports upon completion of each exam. Official score reports are generally received one month following the test dates.
  • Students must acquire a minimum of 12 hours at NTCC before any CLEP credit will be posted to a transcript.
  • A candidate cannot sit for a CLEP exam if he/she is enrolled in the course. CLEP credit will not be awarded if the candidate has previously completed or is currently enrolled in the courses for which credit is sought.
  • Photo ID is required (Drivers License, NTCC ID, or Passport).
  •  The cost of each CLEP exam is $93.00 plus a $30.00 proctoring fee payable to Northeast Texas Community College. Students taking an "optional essay" must pay an additional $10.00 fee payable to CLEP.

The College Board CLEP Official Study Guide can be ordered at https://collegeboard.org at a cost of $24.99.  This guide is also available at bookstores and libraries. Individual subject study guides can be downloaded for $10.00 each, and the CLEP Sampler can be downloaded free of charge at the College Board Web site www.collegeboard.com/clep .
