Two Presidential Scholars win essay awards

Northeast Texas Community College Presidential Scholars Isaac Burris and Morgan Capps both received top awards during the recent meeting of the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA)† in Corpus Christi.

At a session of the Walter Webb Society on March 7, the collegiate auxiliary of the TSHA, Capps won second†place and $300 for her essay on Ma and Pa Ferguson, a Texas gubernatorial couple during the early 20th century.† Isaac Burris won fourth†place and $75 for his essay on the dynamics of Sam Houston?s friendship with his slave, Jeff Hamilton.

Ron Clinton to perform piano concert



Dr. Ron Clinton, Northeast Texas Community College Executive Vice President for Instruction, will perform a solo piano recital on Sunday, March 22 at†2:30 p.m. at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts.†Tickets to the concerts are $10 for adults and $5 for children and NTCC students with a current ID. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships for NTCC students.

NTCC Culinary Arts to host public dinner March 26

The Northeast Texas Community College Culinary Arts Program will host a †public Spring Supper Thursday, March 26 at 6 p.m. This event will be held at the NTCC Culinary Arts School in historic downtown Pittsburg and is open to the public.





The meal is first-come-first-served and no reservations will be accepted. The cost is $12 per person. Seating is limited.†To go orders can be phoned in the day of the event at 903-434-8333.

The Northeast Texas Community College Continuing Education and Adult Education departments have partnered to develop a unique opportunity to begin the path to a meaningful job in entry-level office work.††Students who successfully complete the 21-hour course in general office skills will receive a certificate of completion and develop a portfolio of completed work to show prospective employers.

The character of Texas Lake Country pioneer, Harriet Potter Ames, was at issue last Friday evening at the Mount Pleasant Library.† Before a packed house, and double showing at the premiere of†The Chronicles of Harriet Potter Ames, †the panelists of Honors Northeast and members of the audience exchanged views on the wife of the Texas Navy Secretary, Robert Potter.† Harriet Potter Ames lived from 1810 to 1902, and became widely known as the ?bravest woman of the Texas Revolution.?
