NTCC honors students enjoy cultural trip

Sometime after midnight last Friday night, the last of three vans returned to NTCC with Honors students, completing the second of two bi-annual culture/reward trips for this academic year.† This also was the 22nd†semester trip taken by Honors Northeast since it began in 2007.† According to Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director, there has been one decisive factor behind all of these trips: the generosity of Drs.

Hannah Dickson and Matthew Chambers win Eckman Awards

Two previously homeschooled scholars, Hannah Joy Dickson, and Matthew Frank Chambers, are recent winners of the†Richard, and Joan Eckman Awards for Excellence in Honors.†† These awards are presented biannually to each of the scholars of the two honors seminars at NTCC who maintain the highest seminar grade-point averages.† Each received a $100 check courtesy of an anonymous donor and friend of Northeast Texas Community College.

Both Dickson, and Chambers have made other contributions to the college and community.

Five NTCC students named Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship semi-finalists

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation recently named five students at Northeast Texas Community College as semi-finalists for their highly competitive and elite Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Alicia Cantrell, Brenda Godoy, Rachel Jordan, Adriana Rodriquez and Cassidy Watkins were included in the list.

Their applications were among more than 2,800 submitted by students across the nation. Only 20 percent of applicants made it to semifinalist status.

Four Northeast Texas Community College students learned yesterday that they are semi-finalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship. Alicia Cantrell, Brenda Godoy, Adriana Rodriguez and Cassidy Watkins were all named for the honor.†Finalists will receive a scholarship worth $40,000 for up to three years - a $120,000 value!

Honors group presents to Webb Society

Five Northeast Texas Community College honors freshman recently presented the trailer of their new film on Mary Kay at the annual fall meeting of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society. The Webb Society is the collegiate auxiliary of the Texas State Historical Association.

Warren Wu, Rhylie Anderson, Jordan Whelchel, Karsen Nelson, and Matthew Chambers (pictured from left) have all taken major roles in the production of the film, due for a premiere this February.
