The NTCC Continuing Education department recently offered its very first pickleball course starting in late march. The course, taught by Marc Levesque, is a great way to stay fit, have fun and make new friends. "Thank you NTCC continuing education for allowing me to teach and instruct the fastest growing sport in America “Pickleball”  This amazing sport combines tennis, badminton and ping pong and is played with a paddle and heavier type whiffle ball," Levesque said.

Northeast Texas Community College hosted Eastfield College in a non-conference, single game on March 27th and came away with a 16-11 win. The Eagles bounced back offensively after splitting a weekend series with Panola where they only score five runs in two games. NTCC would score in seven of eight innings that they batted, including a big seven run fifth inning to match a seven run top half of the fifth by Eastfield.

Northeast Texas Community College Softball traveled to Corsicana, Texas on March 25th to take on Navarro College, coming away with one win and one loss. Texas A&M University-Texarkana is offering a special admission application fee waiver for community college transfer students during the month of April. They are doing so in celebration of Community College Month. For more information, visit www.tamut.edu/apply.

In a game that would go back and forth with Richland Scoring one run in the top of the first. NTCC would answer back with two runs in the bottom of the first when the Eagles took advantage of walks. Raef Wright and Carson Lorch (Cypress, Texas) would each walk and make their way around to score to re-capture the lead. Richland would not go down easy, and scored four runs in the top of the second to jump ahead 5-2.

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a $25,000 gift from the Carroll Shelby Foundation. Aaron Shelby (left), is pictured presenting the check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement. The funds will be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in NTCC’s Carroll Shelby Automotive Program.

The NTCC Sociology Travel Club will host a yard sale on Saturday, April 1st from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1303 Larkin Avenue in Mt. Pleasant. All proceeds from the sale will go toward the cost of the first NTCC study-abroad course coming up this May.

NTCC students and faculty are working determinedly to prepare the Sustainable Market Garden for the 4th annual March into Agriculture experience set for March 31st.  “In response to and celebration of National Ag Week, we are delighted to open our gates and share our farm with the community in hopes to initiate an appreciation for farming.” said Director Rene’ McCracken.

Scholars of Honors Northeast, the honors program of Northeast Texas Community College, presented recently for the fourteenth time at the annual meeting of the Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC), this time at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls. The GPHC, dating back to 1975, is an association of eighty honors programs and colleges, supported by both colleges and universities.  It represents one of the six regional components that make up the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).

The NTCC Baptist Student Ministry and Ten Finger Ministry are hosting a night of music and worship featuring Curtis Grimes on March 31st at Moody Ranch (3491 FM 1000, Mt. Pleasant). Gates open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. The family-friendly event is open to all NTCC students, employees and families and there is no cost to attend.
