Matthew Chambers Wins First Dr. Jerry Wesson Scholarship for Excellence in Honors

Presidential Scholar, Matthew Chambers, has won the premier $500 Dr. Jerry Wesson Scholarship, for excellence in honors.  This honor was established in 2018 by Scott Wesson, a Colorado businessman, on behalf of his father-- long-term NTCC Vice President, and booster, Dr. Jerry Wesson. Chambers has impressed many members of the local community with his scholarship.  Last March he gave his presentation on the differences between the soap opera Dallas, and the real Dallas elite at the Mount Pleasant library.  He also won first place and $400 at the McGraw Hill Poster contest at the Whatley Foyer, last April, an award determined by twenty community judges. He also presented this work last March at Oklahoma State University for the Great Plains Honors Council. Chambers has been a winsome team player and leader in NTCC films.  He served as Unit Production Director of the 2017 film on Mary Kay, presented film highlights at a meeting of the Webb Society in Austin, and worked as the cinematographer on the 2018 film on Barbara Conrad. Honors Director, Dr. Andrew Yox notes that: “Matthew Chambers has had a remarkable legacy here as a Chemistry major, a classroom leader, a joiner, and like Dr. Wesson who appreciates Chambers’ scholarship, a leader.  A winner of two Eckman Awards for excellence in honor seminars, Chambers has brought a sense of uplift to NTCC that makes him a most fitting recipient of the first Dr. Wesson scholarship.” Chambers was homeschooled in Mount Pleasant—he is the son of Stacy and Frank Chambers.
