Debbie Strong and Kerry Wootten to Speak at the 11th Annual Northeast Texas Poetry Contest

Submitted by Dr. Andrew Yox, NTCC Honors Director The Eleventh Annual Northeast Texas Poetry Reading on Friday, 7 September at 11 AM will again occur at the Foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the Northeast Texas Community College campus.  The public is invited for this free event.  This year in addition to readings of the highest ranked poems of the adult and student divisions—by the winners—Debbie Strong and Kerry Wootten Esq. will offer their observations about life in Northeast Texas.  Strong has a Master’s in education from Chapman University, and an extensive background in the military and in art.  She heads the art department at NTCC.  She will allude to the first attempt of this event to include three prizes for leading images of Northeast Texas.  Kerry Wootten Esq. is a graduate of the Baylor School of Law.  He has been the Mount Pleasant City Attorney since 1982, and is a partner in the Law Firm of Russell and Wootten. Poems should address something of the character, culture or history of Northeast Texas.  The deadline for the submission of poems is noon on Friday, 31 August. There is also an image contest. Submissions should be sent to ayox@ntcc.edu.
