The Northeast Texas Community College Business Club recently had the opportunity to see business principles at work in the real world on a travel study trip to Boston. Four faculty members and eight business students participated in the summer trip that included stops to the Boston Federal Reserve Bank, Fidelity Investments, Innovation Square, Harvard Business School, and more.  Click here to view a newsletter with full details about the trip.

“It is one thing to learn about something in a classroom setting, but it’s completely different to see it at work in practice. We were so excited to be able to offer our business club members the opportunity to visit a major city and see the wheels of commerce at work,” Heidi Wooten, Professor of Economics and Division Chair for Business and Technology, said.

In addition to enjoying a unique travel experience, students also earned college credit from the trip. All participants were enrolled in at least one business course where they could directly correlate the concepts they studied with business practices they witnessed in Boston.

Faculty members who went on the trip were Karen Andrews, Alan Carter, Linsey Harwell and Wooten. Students who participated were Katie Byars (Business Club Treasurer), Connor Cobern, Chloe Copeland, Emily Hamlin (Business Club Secretary), Jacob Harvey (Business Club President), Marisol Morales, Shy Spangler, and Cameron Yokley (Business Club Vice President).
In order to minimize travel expenses, the students fundraised throughout the year. Thanks to those efforts and the generosity of community donors, the majority of the trip was subsidized for the Business Club students.

“We would like to thank all of the sponsors and individual donors who made this trip possible. Some of our students had never traveled very far from home and this was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them,” Wooten said.

The Business Club will hold its first meeting of the 2024-2025 academic year on September 3rd at 12:20 p.m. in BT 115. All students who have an interest in business or plan to major in a business field are welcome to attend.
