The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles host Navarro College in a double header on March 5th, and the Bulldogs came away with two wins over the home team by a score of 13-0 and 9-6.

Not much would go right for the Eagles in game one of the series. NTCC was limited to just two hits and three walks in the game. The Eagles put the ball in play, but unfortunately the Bulldogs were in the right spot to catch most anything the Eagles hit.

Kevin Schoneboom (Mansfield, Texas) would get the start in game one and take the loss for NTCC. Schoneboom would go two innings before giving way to George Austin (Dallas, Texas) in the run ruled shortened game.

NTCC regrouped for game two and made it a ball game until the end. The Eagles pounded out eleven hits and walked ten times but left fifteen runners stranded on the bases in the loss.

Game two action would be back and forth as neither team scored until the fourth inning. Navarro got on the board first with two runs in the top of the fourth. NTCC would answer right back with two runs to tie the game at 2-2. Rohan Sanganeria (Santa Clara, CA) would hit a double with one out to get things going in the Eagle half of the fourth inning. Paxton Ponder (Frisco, Texas) would single to move Sanganeria to third base. The Eagles took advantage of an error by the Bulldog second baseman when Raef Wright (Burleson, Texas) would put the ball in play and score Rohan. Anthony Capobianco (San Antonio, Texas) would single to left to score Ponder and tie the game.

After holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the top of the fifth the Eagles took the lead after Caleb Reynolds (Frisco, Texas) walked and then stole second base to get into scoring position. Sanganeria would have his second of three hits in the game to bring Reynolds in to score and put the Eagles ahead 3-2.

Once again Navarro had an answer and scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to move ahead 6-3. The Eagles tried to answer back in the bottom of the sixth and scored two runs when Seth Cox (Fairview, Texas) singled to left field. The Eagles would get two more base runners via walks when the hot bat of Sanganeria hit his second double of the day to score Cox and Carson Lorch (Cypress, Texas), who had walked.

Once again, the Bulldogs answered the Eagles scoring with one run in the top of the seventh to move the game to 7-5. NTCC got one final run in the bottom of the seventh when leadoff hitter Wright was hit by the pitch. Cox came up with one out and put the ball in play forcing another error by Navarro and moved Wright to third while he made it to second base. Back to back walks would bring in Wright to score the final run for the Eagles.

Navarro scored two final runs in top of the eight to bring the final score to 9-6.

Austin Burda (Mansfield, Texas) would get the start on the mound in game two. Burda would go four and two-thirds innings before giving way to the bullpen.

The Eagles will look to get back on track with a non-conference road trip to Eastfield College on March 6, 2023 before returning to conference play at Angelina College on Wednesday, March 8th.
