The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) Softball (2-7) team played two more game on Saturday in the Weatherford College Tournament. Game one the Eagles would lose game one to North Central Texas College (NCTC) 8-2 and the final game of the tournament to the host Weatherford, 11-7.
In game one, NTCC took an early 2-1 lead in the second inning but those were the lone runs in game one for the Eagles. Kadi Downs, Madi Brown, Lauren Isbell, McKenna Manes and Analise Padilla would all have one hit in game one. Averie Ayers would get the start in the circle, going five and two-thirds innings for NTCC. Ayers had six strike outs on the day before giving way to Emily Cole in relief.
Game two of the day had NTCC taking on host Weatherford College. NTCC got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Weatherford would answer back in the second, scoring 7 runs in the frame. Collyn Schuricht would start game two and go two and two-thirds innings. Kadi Downs pitched the final three and one-third innings for the Eagles.
Even after doing down 7-1 after two innings, the Eagle hitters did their best to fight back in the game. NTCC would have eleven hits on the day and pick up one run in the third, two runs in the fifth and three runs in the 7th inning comeback attempt against Weatherford. Downs would lead the offense for the Eagles with three hits in game two, Pearl Perry and Haylee Wilson had two hits each to help in the comeback attempt.
NTCC will have one more road game next Saturday, February 15th, at McLennan before coming home for four straight series the following week.
