PTK Catalyst, Phi Theta Kappa’s international convention, was turned into a live virtual streaming event this year. Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, was among those recognized at the international level. Awards were given out to recognize the hard work of 1,285 chapters in the United States and ten other nations.

Alpha Mu Chi was named a Top 100 chapter, Distinguished Chapter, and a Five Star Chapter. The chapter also received an Honors in Action award for their project “Transforming Mental Health Stigmas into Celebrations Through Art” which included an “Outside the Lines” art show and calendar of artwork. Chapter member Jacob Lambie won the International Vice-President of Division II position, a first for the chapter.

Keynote speakers at the event included James Ellis, Phi Theta Kappa International President, Dr. Lynn Tichner-Ladner, President and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa, Erica Dhawan, Connectional intelligence Expert and Author, and Dr. Boris Konrad, Neuroscientist and Memory Expert. Chapter members had “virtual tickets” and watched the event live streamed April 16-17, although pre-event activities, such as campaigning for international officer positions, began weeks prior.

Founded over 100 years ago, Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious honor society for two year colleges. PTK has four Hallmarks: Leadership (give opportunities for leadership experience and character development); Scholarship (recognize those who excel academically and strive to reach a higher level of learning); Fellowship (gather a community of like-minded individuals who share ideas and ideas); and Service (emphasize service to others, both on college campuses and in their communities).
