The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles softball team (9-19, 4-8) dropped both games against Angelina College (20-6, 7-3) in an away doubleheader in Lufkin last Sunday. This was the first of four straight in a road series for the Eagles.
In the first inning of game one, the Angelina College Roadrunners got their offense started when Emilee Cernosek singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. Angelina pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. The Roadrunners scored four runs in the fifth inning.
Kara Carter started the game for the Eagles. She allowed seven hits and eight runs over five innings, striking out two. Mackensie Mankel threw one inning out of the bullpen.
Ramzi Smith went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead NTCC in hits.
In game two of the day, NTCC stayed in it until the end, but Angelina pulled away late in a 14-4 victory on Sunday. The Roadrunners were down 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kaylee Ancelot homered on a 1-0 count, scoring three runs.
In the top of the fourth inning, NTCC tied things up at three. Angelina College scored eight runs in the sixth inning. Jamie Franks started the game for the Eagles and she surrendered nine runs on six hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out two. NTCC tallied six hits in the game. Brooklyn Manes and Blakelea Nettles each collected multiple hits for the Eagles.
NTCC Softball will return to action Friday on the road against Tyler Junior College.
