The Texas A&M University – Commerce Mathematics Advisory Council met Friday, February 1 at the Alumni Center on the university campus for a scheduled biannual meeting. The council of eleven invited members from community colleges and public schools was initiated this year by the TAMU – Commerce Department of Mathematics. Council members join with the mathematics faculty and administration to discuss suggestions and ideas for recruitment, undergraduate research, outreach activities, and other areas of service by the department.
Shown in the photo are Lisa Ellermann, Dr. Tingxiu Wang, and Dr. Paula Wilhite. Ellermann, a secondary math specialist for Region 8 Education Service Center and a 2008 recipient of the NTCC Distinguished Alumnus award, was elected to serve as chair of the council. Dr. Wang is professor and department head of mathematics at TAMU-Commerce. Dr. Wilhite is professor of mathematics and division chair for mathematics, physics, and engineering at NTCC. Both Ellermann and Wilhite are alumni of TAMU-Commerce.
