The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees swore in three members for new terms at the regular May meeting Tuesday night. Governor Bill Ratliff swore in fellow members Sondra Fowler, Sid Greer and Dr. Dan McCauley, who all kept their places on the board after being unopposed for a May election. Fowler, who serves in Place Three on the board, was elected to finish out the last two unexpired years of her term, which she was appointed to after John Bryan retired from the board last year. Greer (Place Four) and McCauley (Place Seven) will serve full six-year terms.
Dr. Paula Wilhite presented the Adjunct Faculty Teaching Excellence Award to Ann Jenkins, who teaches embedded dual credit mathematics courses for NTCC at Mount Pleasant High School. Jenkins has been an Associate Professor at NTCC for 15 years. Wilhite commended Jenkins for her professionalism, high student success rates and, perhaps most importantly, her devotion to her students.
?Ms. Jenkins represents the very best that we have to offer. The positive image and goodwill that she exemplifies is a testament to the mission and purpose of our college. In doing so, she has empowered a multitude of students to pursue their dream career pathway,? Wilhite said.
The board also approved the employment of Dr. Kevin Rose as Vice President of Instruction. Rose had been filling the position in the interim since Dr. Ron Clinton, who formerly held the position, was named President last December.
?Dr. Rose has been an integral member of our team for years as Associate Vice President for Workforce Development. He did an excellent job of stepping into the role of Interim Vice President of Instruction and I am pleased that the board has approved him to continue in that capacity on a permanent basis,? Clinton said.
Rose gave the board an update on the college?s SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) Fifth Year Report. This report marks the halfway-point of the college?s 10-year accreditation reaffirmation process. Rose stated that the five-year report†has been expanded†by SACSCOC to comply with new regulations by the U.S. Department of Education. A team of college employees is on track to submit the extensive report, which covers all aspects of college operations, by an August deadline.
Rene? McCracken, NTCC Ag Director, presented for Focus on Faculty. She gave a brief report on the NTCC Agriculture department, including updates on the summer Work Scholarship Program and new dual credit courses being added to the ag curriculum. Dr. Josh Stewart gave a report on the NTCC Athletics Program, stating that student athletes make up 14 percent of the†full-time†student population of NTCC. Athletes also represent the majority of students†living on campus, take more hours than the average student,†and have higher GPAs.
