The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles softball team traveled to Temple last weekend to participate in a five-game tournament. The Eagles faced San Jacinto, Temple, McLennan, Blinn and Galveston. The team fought hard, but were unable to come back home with a win.
The Lady Eagles faced three teams on Friday. In the first game versus San Jacinto, Northeast put up a good fight.
Brittany Baggett collected two hits and two RBI for the Eagles and helped put the team on the board with a double in the top of the seventh inning. San Jacinto knotted the game up in the bottom.
Northeast couldn?t stop San Jacinto from scoring another run, ultimately losing the game, 3-2.
The Eagles faced Temple College and McLennan later in the day. The team was outrun by both opponents.
On Saturday, Northeast tried to erase a seven-run deficit against Blinn. In the third, Baggett scored for the Lady Eagles after Nadia Ballarin batted a pop fly and reached base on an error.
Emily Burogs singled to left field, scoring Ballarin. The team picked up another two runs in the sixth, but couldn?t get anything going in the seventh, ending the game 7-4.
The Eagles got an early lead in their last game versus Galveston. Baggett scored on a passed ball in the top of the first while Ballarin batted in Daniela Azuaje for a 2-0 cushion in the second. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Kirsten Shaw hit big for Galveston with a double to center field, scoring Caylei Allen and Jazmine Castillo, tying the game 2-2. Unfortunately for the Eagles, a single by Vanessa Childress scored Shaw. Northeast was unable to recover, losing 3-2.
