The Lady Eagles soccer team faced off against the 13th ranked Navarro for the second time in a region game Tuesday. Navarro came out strong and found the back of the net in the 4th minute giving them a 1-0 lead. The Lady Eagles were able to uphold the pressure and keep the score at 1-0. In the 25th minute†Esther Okoronkwo†was able to capitalize on a penalty kick and even the score. The score was 1-1 at halftime with†Mandi DeLeon†making key saves in goal ending up with three for the half.
The second half was back with both teams creating chances on goal. In the 56th minute Navarro scored and took the early second half lead 2-1. Just four minutes later in the 60th minute†Ezmeralda Loya†even the game back up with an assist from†Ana Ramirez. The Lady Eagles took their first lead in the 72nd minute when†Brianne Arnold†found the back of the net from an assist from†Yayedior Mbengue. †Seven minutes later, in the 79th minute,†Brianne Arnold†scored her second goal on a header off a†Yayedior Mbengue†corner kick, giving the Lady Eagles the 4-2 lead. Navarro responded quickly, scoring in the 81st minute cutting the lead down to one goal in a score of 4-3. The Lady Eagles held on for the 4-3 victory,†Mandi DeLeonended the game in net with seven saves.
The Lady Eagles next game is Saturday, Oct. 8 at home against Angelina at 2 p.m.
