Theatre Northeast to perform annual children's play

Theatre Northeast will present the new children?s classic play,†Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures†December 5 at 7:30 p.m. and December 6 at 2:05 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the Northeast Texas Community College campus.

It?s a boring, long day at school. The kids don?t want to be there. But†suddenly, the classroom door bursts open and there?wearing pajamas and cowboy boots?stands red-headed Gooney Bird Greene! With her outrageous outfits and outlandish stories, Gooney mesmerizes the class with her adventures of traveling around the world on a flying carpet, leading a symphony orchestra while driving through town, and finding her precious diamond earrings in an exotic palace.††By sparking their imaginations, Gooney Bird shows the students that their lives are as unique as hers, as they can cast themselves as the heroes in their own tales of discovery.?

The cast for†Gooney Bird Greene†includes Distinguished Theatre Northeast Alumni Tyler Beadle, Ariah Burkhalter and Lauren Pace, all of Mount Pleasant, and Marcy Logan of Omaha. Other cast members include Elizabeth Griffin, Kaitlyn Currey and Briniqua Stephens, of Mount Pleasant; Bethy Taraba, Bri Stacks, Jake Lain, Ben Ruland, Justin Mejia††and Guy Stillwell, of Pittsburg; Cassia Rose and Hunter Williams, of Winnsboro; Corin Carter, of Gilmer; Trace Lewis, of Redwater; Nathan Johnson, of Mt. Vernon; and Beka Hall, of Leesburg. The production is directed by NTCC Professor of Theatre, Douglas Hoppock.

Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for age 17 and under, Sr. Citizens and NTCC Faculty and Staff. Reservations are not required.

Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures†is written by Kent R. Brown and is based on the Children?s Book by the same title by Lois Lowry. It marks the 25th†year that Theatre Northeast has produced a children?s play at Christmastime.††In those years, the plays have been seen by more than 110,000 area school children.
