The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently announced that the Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Softball team ranked third in the nation for team grade point average. The team held a 3.52 GPA for the 2014-2015 school year.
Head softball coach, Jessica Keith, said that academics are always a priority for her team.
"Our students are here first and foremost to get an education. To know that our girls are among the top in the nation academically is very gratifying to me as a coach and it speaks to the hard work and dedication of our players," Keith said.
While athletic excellence is a priority, student athletes at NTCC participate in a variety of activities to help develop their character both on and off the field. These include special study sessions and community service hours.
"Our goal as an athletic department is to help our players prepare not only for competition, but also for life. We want to help them become well-rounded young adults who can contribute to their communities," Dr. Josh Stewart, NTCC Athletic Director, said. "We are exceptionally proud of our softball team's academic achievements and I know that their high standard of excellence will continue under Coach Keith's leadership."
