Theatre Northeast to present Inherit the Wind

Theatre Northeast is proud to present the ?classic courtroom drama,"†Inherit the Wind, by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Northeast Texas Community College. Performances will run April 25-27 at 7:30 p.m. and April 28 at 2:05 p.m.

Described as ??one of the truly great American dramas of this century,?†Inherit the Wind†has as itsgenesis the famous Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925. Two great lawyers face off in a small-town courtroom with the eyes of an entire nation upon them. The accused?† A science† teacher. His crime?† Teaching evolution in a rural high school.

Inherit the Wind†is an edge-of-your-seat legal drama and a riveting look at the age-old conflict of science and faith. The portrait it draws of an explosive episode in American culture remains as fresh today as it was when originally produced in 1955.

Playing the roles of the two ?Legal Giants? are Douglas Hoppock, NTCC Professor of Theatre, as Henry Drummond and Nick Derby of Mount Pleasant as Matthew Harrison Brady. Other cast members include, Brittany Derby, Tyler Beadle, John Coleman, Kati Barrett, Cory Myers, John Chambers, Jordan Chambers, Jim Chambers, Jeff Chambers, Cassie Pennington, Ariah Burkhalter, Jesse Kimball, Fran Vanover and Joshua Gage, all of Mount Pleasant; Johann Strottman and Bjorn Strottman of Pittsburg; Eric Staples and Andrew McClain of Daingerfield; Alisha Richardson of Avinger; Kendall Williams of Marshall; Jared Neal and Jill Bradley of Hughes Springs; Stormy Mack of Winnsboro; Jessica Standridge of Mt. Vernon; Patrick Reed of Lone Star; Jimmy Wise of Naples; and Bryana Dyson of St. Louis, Mo. The production is directed by Douglas Hoppock. Production Stage Manager is Kati Barrett and Assistant Stage Manager is Stormy Mack.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for age 17 and under, and $3 for NTCC Faculty, Staff and Sr. Citizens.† NTCC students are free with current ID.† There will be open seating. Reservations are not required.
