Job Duties

  • Foster a positive culture by welcoming and meeting the diverse needs and perspectives of groups and individuals. 
  • Supervise and maintain accountability for the work of commissioned police officers or non-commissioned personnel; develop and coordinate work schedules. 
  • Conduct and participate in training activities; study and instruct personnel in modern police science methods and techniques. 
  • Write case reports, maintain logs, court dockets, and other related reports; review the quality of reports completed by assigned staff. 
  • Evaluate employee performance; conduct consistent staff and one-on-one check in meetings with direct reports; provide career counseling.
  • Coordinate the hiring and onboarding of new employees. • Delegate, review and ensure timely completion of duties of assigned staff.
  • Assist in the development and communication of department goals that support the Colleges’ Mission and Educational Plan.
  • Train staff; set specific and measurable standards and goals.
  • Evaluate the departments function to improve service, productivity, and efficiency, and assist with resolution of work-related complaints and issues that cannot be addressed by the Chief of Police. 
  • Comply with and administer College policies.
  • Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.
  • Make recommendations regarding discipline or termination. 
  • Participate in community activities and provide presentations to groups. 
  • Assist in development of department regulations, policies, and procedures.  
  • Encourage staff to participate in community engagement opportunities. 
  • Oversee incidents and assist officers at emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Attend and participate in meetings; attend conferences and meetings pertaining to department operations, the criminal justice system, and the needs of the public. 
  • Respond to traffic situations, both routine and emergency, including serious injury, fatality accidents, hazardous spills, and officer-requested response. 
  • Coordinate response of units to specific situations; determine need for additional assistance, follow up for investigative personnel; provide back up and vehicle patrol when necessary. 
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a Field Officer Training program and manual. 
  • Assume responsibility for the Police Department’s operation in the absence of the Chief of Police.
  • Assist subordinates in setting goals and planning and coordinating their work. 
  • Accountable for actions and dealing with violations of rules, policy, or procedures on an impartial basis. 
  • Assess training and equipment needs; provide recommendations to the budget based on these needs.
  • Investigate allegations of misconduct against employees of the Police Department.
  • Serve as a witness in court in connection with arrests and investigations.
  • Perform all duties and tasks required in the rank of Police Officer.
  • Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to the law enforcement field and specifically to collegiate policing. 
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • May be assigned to support College priorities during emergencies.
  • Collaborate with other police agencies dealing with similar case assignments and responsibilities. 
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • U.S. resident
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Applicant must have at least 10 years commissioned law enforcement experience and at least 2 years supervisory experience. 
  • Applicant must possess a Master Peace Officer Certification. 
  • Ability to read and write the English Language. 
  • Pass a stringent background investigation;
    • Criminal history check 
    • Decertification check 
    • Medical drug screening test 
    • Potential phycological evaluation 
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

Physical Demands

  • Drive and perform field work. 
  • Work in dangerous or emergency circumstances requiring vigorous physical activity and exertion. 
  • Lift or move items weighing up to 20 pounds on occasion. 
  • Lift heavy objects in awkward and confined spaces, using proper lifting and rigging techniques.
  • Climb and work from ladders, climb stairs, ability to navigate a variety of different terrains.
  • Run, jog, or walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Bending, stretching, sitting, and standing for extended periods.  

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a typical office environment and/or performed outdoors in all weather conditions and may involve moving throughout the facility and community. 
  • Work assigned shift knowing that shifts vary and may include evenings, weekends and holidays. 
  • Noise level out in the field is moderately loud and noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
