Adjunct Faculty - Medical Coding

Job Duties:

An adjunct faculty member of the NTCC Medical Assisting/Medical Coding Program is responsible for providing quality instruction to students thus ensuring the fulfillment of departmental educational goals and objectives. These responsibilities require leadership in both academic and workforce areas and include meeting student retention goals, directing and participating in educational planning, evaluating student performance, motivating and advising students, and ensuring program compliance with all applicable accrediting agencies. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Assist in curriculum development and instructional advancement in the field of Medical Assisting/Medical Coding
  • Assess the instructional needs of students in the program and help coordinate the development of a plan to address these needs.
  • Teach courses as assigned; determined by need and/or expertise.
  • Assist in the annual core curriculum evaluations of the program, assessment of institutional effectiveness and preparation of reports.
  • Coordinate departmental textbook orders.
  • Maintain communication and work cooperatively with clinical instructors of off-campus instructional sites.
  • Maintain quality assurance to remain compliant with all required accrediting agencies.
  • Keep current evidence of licensure and education on file with the institution and Health Sciences department.
  • Keep current on best practices, healthcare trends, and healthcare theory in their designated specialty. Certification is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Maintains frequent communication with other faculty and students through personal visits, letters, email, phone calls and web-conferencing
  • Consistently facilitate collegial interactions with staff, students, and other colleagues
  • Initiate and establish strong relationships with Medical Assisting/Medical Coding education and program stakeholders to promote program goals and the institutional strategic plan
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Director of Medical Assisting/Medical Coding and/or the Dean of Health Sciences  

Experience and Other Qualifications Required:

  • Faculty in the Medical Assisting/Medical Coding Program must possess a minimum of an Associate Degree in a healthcare and/or medical coding field from an accredited program.

  • A minimum of two years of successful clinical practice in the healthcare industry and knowledge of learning theory and practice is required. 

  • Medical Assisting faculty/instructional staff must be current and competent in the MAERB Core Curriculum objectives included in their assigned teaching, as evidenced by education and/or experience, and have instruction in educational theory and techniques. 

  • Medical Coding faculty/instructional staff must be current and competent in Medical Coding and Insurance with certification through AHiMA, NHA, or other certifying organization.

Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications.
