Honors Northeast and the local Webb Society will hold a premiere of the new original historical film Smoldering Wick: the Story of Mary Kay on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation recently named five students at Northeast Texas Community College as semi-finalists for their highly competitive and elite Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Alicia Cantrell, Brenda Godoy, Rachel Jordan, Adriana Rodriquez and Cassidy Watkins were included in the list.

Their applications were among more than 2,800 submitted by students across the nation. Only 20 percent of applicants made it to semifinalist status.

Four Northeast Texas Community College students learned yesterday that they are semi-finalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship. Alicia Cantrell, Brenda Godoy, Adriana Rodriguez and Cassidy Watkins were all named for the honor.†Finalists will receive a scholarship worth $40,000 for up to three years - a $120,000 value!

For the 10^th year in a row, members of Honors Northeast, the honors program at Northeast Texas Community College, have presented scholarly work at the annual meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC).

Five Northeast Texas Community College honors freshman recently presented the trailer of their new film on Mary Kay at the annual fall meeting of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society. The Webb Society is the collegiate auxiliary of the Texas State Historical Association.

Warren Wu, Rhylie Anderson, Jordan Whelchel, Karsen Nelson, and Matthew Chambers (pictured from left) have all taken major roles in the production of the film, due for a premiere this February.

A Northeast Texas Community College sophomore recently defeated a senior university student to earn the right to represent regional honors students on the board of the Great Plains Honors Council (GPHC).

Alicia Cantrell recently received the Walter B Cooper Scholarship at the Texas Leadership Conference. The Phi Theta Kappa conference, held on the campus of Texas Lutheran Unive
rsity, concluded by announcing four winners from across the state of Texas. The Walter B Cooper Scholarship recognizes outstanding students who are ?well-rounded?

Brenda Godoy recently became the second student in the history of Northeast Texas Community College to speak alongside professorial scholars at a meeting of a professional association. She appeared at the East Texas Historical Association on October 13 at Galveston, wedged between a prize-winning author who was a former journalist for the†Dallas Morning News and a professor at Blinn College.

Northeast Texas Community College students Alicia Cantrell, Rachel Jordan and Cassidy Watkins are three of 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named a 2017 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program helps new Phi Theta Kappa members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are also encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in Society programs and are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service, and leadership potential.

Honors students at Northeast Texas Community College recently traveled to Fort Worth for the program?s 21^st semester day trip. The fall experience included stops at Starbucks, the Fort Worth Zoo, the Woodshed Smokehouse, the Fort Worth Cultural district museums, the Botanical Garden and Tarrant County College. These free trips, through the ongoing support of Drs. Jim and Paula Archer and other friends of NTCC, have become a standard feature of the honors program since 2008.
