Crane Memorial Scholarship established
Five sophomore Northeast Texas Community College Honors students, in addition to Honors professors Dr. Mary Hearron and Dr. Andrew Yox,†recently†represented NTCC at the 50th Anniversary meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) in Chicago. The NCHC is the premier association of honors programs and honors colleges in the nation. NTCC is the only community college to have featured scholarly student presenters at the yearly NCHC continuously since 2008.
NCHC committees select proposals to present on the basis of appeal, previous awards, and scholarly promise.

Recent studies show that residents of rural Northeast Texas are among the sickest in the state per capita. Patients in this region suffer from high incidences of chronic diseases and are more likely to pass away from their conditions than residents of other parts of the state. While these statistics may seem grim, work is being done to improve the quality and availability of healthcare for rural Texans.
During the week of December 14-17, the Northeast Police Academy will be hosting an Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) course. †This will require the use of the entire Business Technology Building for both the lecture and tactical experience. †Therefore, the BT building will be unavailable to the general public.

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation announced the winners of the 2015-2016†Whatley Employment Enhancement Awards this week. Five†out of 21 proposals were chosen for funding. Winning employees and projects included:

Northeast Texas Community College is now accepting applications for its upcoming Firefighter Academy. The program begins January 11 and runs through June 30. †Students will meet†Monday†through Thursday†evenings at the Central Fire Station in Mount Pleasant and alternating Saturdays.†
Cypress Bank recently gave $3,000 to sponsor the upcoming holiday performance of The Hit Men, former stars of Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons, at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at Northeast Texas Community College.
