Student Art Show returns

The Northeast Texas Community College Art Department will hold its annual student art show Thursday, April 7 through Tuesday, May 4 in the foyer gallery of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. The exhibit will feature student work in photography, painting, ceramics, digital artwork, drawing and design. An artist reception will be held Wednesday, April 21 in the Whatley Center foyer at 12:30 p.m. The exhibit is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Please call 903-434-8181 to ensure the gallery is open before visiting.

Theater classes are back

NTCC is pleased to announce that theater classes will be offered again starting this fall! Courses on the schedule include: Theater Appreciation (DRAM-1310), Stagecraft I (DRAM-1330) and Acting I (DRAM-1351). Five $500 scholarships are available for students enrolled in theater classes.

Shelby Foundation gives $80,000 to support Shelby Automotive Program

Aaron Shelby and the Carroll Shelby Foundation recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with checks totaling $80,000 to support NTCC’s Shelby Automotive Technology program. One gift for $50,000 will provide scholarships for students in the Shelby program and $30,000 will be used toward the Shelby Restoration Center being built at NTCC. Jalyn English named a Coca-Cola Gold Scholar

Jalyn English, a Presidential scholar at Northeast Texas Community College, has been named a 2021 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship.

Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Sixth year of Bonnie Spencer awards

Expertise has its own rewards, and in the case of history essays at Northeast Texas Community College, the reward might be something greater than an ‘A’.  For the sixth year, history at NTCC will feature the Bonnie Spencer Awards for the best two research papers in non-honors classes.  The first-place winner will receive $100, and the second place, $50.  There will be an optional Honorable Mention Prize.
