The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular November meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21st at 5:30 p.m.
In the President's report, Dr. Ron Clinton announced that NTCC has been named in the top 10 finalists nationwide for the Bellwether Award for Community Colleges. NTCC entered its innovative Work4College Program in the Planning, Governance, and Finance category. The nationally-recognized Bellwether Award focuses on cutting-edge, trendsetting programs worthy of replication. A group from NTCC will travel to San Antonio to compete for the award in February.
"To be singled for a national honor like this is not only rewarding, but it will also put the Work4College in the public eye so that other colleges might be able to replicate its success to benefit even more students," Clinton said. "I commend Dr. Jon McCullough and his team for their outstanding work with the program and for submitting an application that was chosen from many. I know that they will represent the College well."
Clinton also commended Phi Theta Kappa students and the Social Work/Sociology programs for their efforts during First Gen week earlier this month. This is a special initiative designed to empower students who are the first in their family to attend college.
Under items of information, Amy Adkins, Executive Director of Human Resources, gave an update on legal policies. She stated that Update 46 (Legal Policies) contains Revisions to legal frameworks that incorporate clarification of existing materials and new materials arising from the 88th Regular Legislative Session and subsequent special sessions, as well as amendments to federal statutes and rule changes from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and other state agencies. A few areas of policy change that she highlighted included minor changes to election procedures, broad changes in DEI (in response to SB 17), changes in Emergency Operations Plan reporting and additional Equal Opportunity reporting.
In action items, the Board approved the consent agenda and made several personnel decisions. They approved the employment of Beverly Price as a new Faculty Member in Nursing effective in January. They released the Director of Nursing, Assistant Softball Coach/Assistant Housing Director, Registrar, and a Faculty Member in Culinary Arts from their contracts.
No executive session was called and the meeting was adjourned.
