Archaeologist to present lecture on findings from the Reigns of Kings David and Solomon

John Harmon

By: Dr. Andrew Yox, Honors Director

John Harmon, a doctoral candidate at Lipscomb University, will be presenting recent research relative to the reigns of Israel’s greatest Old Testament kings. The lecture will occur in Humanities 101 from 12:25 to 1:20 PM on Thursday, 10 November. The lecture is sponsored by Honors Northeast. Those who plan to attend in advance are welcome to notify Honors Director, Dr. Andrew Yox at ayox@ntcc.edu for a free lunch.

Harmon has participated in nine excavations, including five sites in Israel. He earned a BA in History at Indiana Wesleyan University, an MA in Biblical Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary, and a ThM at Southern Baptist University.

According to Harmon, the eastern Mediterranean area experienced a great deal of turmoil after the collapse of the Bronze Age empires.  This afforded an opportunity for the rise of Israel.  But is there some archaeological corroboration for the rich Biblical narratives in 1 and 2 Samuel, and 1 and 2 Chronicles?  How did the later kings of Israel fare?  Harmon’s lecture will conclude with a time for questions from the audience.
