The Northeast Texas Community College Theatre Department will present Almost, Maine on the stage of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts December 1st-3rd. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. nightly and there will also be a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Dec. 3rd.
The play, written by John Cariani, is directed by Dr. Page Petrucka, NTCC Associate Professor of Theatre. The cast and crew include NTCC students, staff, local community members, and Eric Staples, theatre instructor at Chapel Hill ISD.
“This play has been on my radar for some time. It’s heartwarming, touching, and delightfully funny. It also calls for a flexible cast so I could continue to pull from sources in the community and nearby high schools. This has been a true collaboration and a beautiful experience. The residents of Almost, Maine would love to have you come by and hear their stories. I promise, you won’t be disappointed” Petrucka said.
"Welcome to Almost, Maine, a place that’s so far north, it’s almost not in the United States. It’s almost in Canada. And it’s not quite a town, because its residents never got around to getting organized. So it almost doesn’t exist. One cold, clear, winter night, as the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, the residents of Almost, Maine, find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream."
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, military and ages 65+. They may be purchased online at www.whatleycenter.com/tickets, by calling the box office at 903-434-8181 or at the door.
