Northeast Texas Community College Baseball returned to the diamond after a lengthy time off from the snow storms that affected most of Texas last week. NTCC hit the road to make up the weekend series that was lost with the Tyler Junior College Apaches. TJC would hold off and Eagle comeback attempt and win the first game of the series 7-6.
NTCC would send Kaleb Wisnoski (Navasota HS) to the mound for the start. Wisnoski would go three and one-third innings before giving way to the bullpen. NTCC would also send out Landon Hermann (Bridgeland HS), Justin Lambright (Trenton HS), Brock Shoffner (Bridgeland HS), and Chance Bolter (Plano HS) to battle the Apaches hitters. The Eagle pitchers would combine for seven strikeouts, eleven hits against TJC but errors were costly for NTCC in the contest.
Offensively NTCC Luke McBride (Nashville, AR HS) got the Eagles on the scoreboard to tie things at 1-1 in the fourth inning when he walked to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a stolen base. McBride would score when Nico Baumbach (Euless Trinity HS) doubled to left field to even the game at one run each. TJC would add four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and two runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-1.
The Eagles would not go away and in the eighth inning got back in the game with a big four run inning. Jason Schneider (Round Rock McNeil) started the rally with a solo homerun to left. Jett Forrest (Lorena HS) and Matt Hill (South Mecklenberg, NC HS) would reach after being hit by the pitch and walked back to back following the homerun. McBride would load the bases when he would single and all three baserunners would find their way to home plate in the inning to cut the lead to 7-5. Khalon Clayton (Kilgore HS) would drive in the final Eagle run in the ninth inning when he singled to right to score Forrest who had walked earlier in the inning bringing us to the final score of 7-6.
NTCC will take on TJC in a single game on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 before heading to Navarro College on Thursday, February 25th. NTCC will host Navarro on Saturday February 27th in a double header at 1:00pm weather permitting.
