Board of Trustees holds regular October meeting

The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met for its regular October meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 26. 

Jeff Chambers, Vice President for Administrative Services, presented the finance report and stated that college revenue and expenditures for fall are on target with budget projections. Additionally, he discussed federal HEERF (Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund) money that NTCC received to provide direct relief to students and the institution as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The college has already distributed $1.1 million directly to students to provide relief in various ways – from emergency scholarships to purchasing technology needed to complete classes. In one action item, the Board approved using a portion of the HEERF funds to purchase 333 computers due to technology changes brought by COVID-19. This will include 61 faculty computers, 35 for staff, 61 for classrooms and 176 for labs.  

“It is important that we upgrade our technology to better facilitate online learning, expanded class format offerings and to help students at distances,” Chambers said.  

The Board also approved a bid to replace the flat areas of the Whatley Center roof. Two vendors provided quotes and the Board approved the administration’s recommendation of Texas Pro Roofing to perform the work. The winning bid was for a total of $185,670, which includes tear off and replacement of both flat roof areas with a 20 year warranty for labor, installation and materials.   

Other action items included approving the consent agenda and separate resolutions to vote for Titus and Morris County Appraisal District Board candidates.
