The application for the 2022 Northeast Texas Community College Work4College Program is officially open! Those wishing to participate should visit www.work4college.com to apply.
Moving into its ninth year of operation at NTCC, Work4College is a scholarship program designed to give students the opportunity to work during the summer to earn money for college. While doing meaningful work on campus and learning important life skills, students are able to earn a paycheck and save for future classes at NTCC. More than 80 students participated in 2021 and the college hopes to have close to 100 spots available in 2022.
"This program is funded completely by private donations and grants, so we've been thrilled to see it grow every year. Word has gotten out into the community and the donations have increased along with the number of applications from students who wish to participate," Mason May, Director of Work4College, said.
The program is open to anyone who has completed their sophomore year of high school before the summer program begins and who plans to attend NTCC. Participants are paid $15 per hour, with half of that amount being paid to the student and the other half going into a scholarship fund to pay for future NTCC classes. In addition to completing a short application, students are also required to submit their high school or college transcript (most recent), a letter of reference and an essay explaining why they would like to participate in the Work4College Program.
"We have had to become even more selective because demand has risen. I highly recommend that students apply early and really put some thought into their essay in order to have the best chance of being chosen," May said.
The application deadline for Work4College is April 15, 2022. Questions about the program can be directed to May at 903-434-8246 or mmay@ntcc.edu. More details are also available on the website at www.work4college.com.
