Whatley Center hosts art exhibit by "Pulpwood Queen" Kathy L. Murphy

The Northeast Texas Community College†Art†Department will host its first†exhibit†of 2018†February 5-28 in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing†Arts. The show, Bookland, will feature ceramics and alcohol ink panels†by artist and author, Kathy L. Murphy. A reception with the†artist will be held Tuesday, February 13 at 12:30 a.m. in the Whatley Center foyer.

Murphy's artwork is created hoping the viewer will be transformed and transported to other worlds sparked by their own experiences and imagination. †Her art stems from a childhood spent outside enveloped in nature and in the imaginations of those that occurred from a lifetime of reading books. †Murphy works primarily in alcohol and India ink paintings and†hand-built raku ceramics.

Murphy founded†The Pulpwood Queens and†Timber Guys Book Clubs, the largest "meeting and†discussion" book club in the world that began when she in 2000 when she opened its headquarters Beauty and the Book, the only hair salon/bookstore in the country. †Murphy is the author of The Pulpwood Queen's Tiara-Wearing, Book-Sharing Guide to Life. Following the exhibit, one of the pieces on display in the Whatley Center will be placed in the permanent collection of the University of Texas at Tyler, where Murphy Received her Bachelor?s degree,

The†exhibit†is free and open to the public Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
