NTCC Eagles Baseball wins first two in Region 14 tournament

The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles Baseball team is one step closer to the NJCAA World Series as they beat Galveston College 9-5 Sunday in the Region 14 Tournament. The win came on the heels of an 8-6 win against Blinn College on Saturday.

NTCC got things moving in the first inning against Galveston, when†Manny Garcia†homered on a 2-0 count, scoring two runs.

Jordan Martinez†pitched†the Eagles†to victory. He went two and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out five.††Matt Kortendick†threw three and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.††Kortendick recorded the last 11 outs to earn the save for†NTCC. Corbin Bozosi†started the game, he went three innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out three.

NTCC launched one home run on the day and collected seven hits.†Jhosmel Rodriguez,†Matt Scheurich, and†Chase Talbot†all managed multiple hits for†the Eagles.††Talbot,†Scheurich, and†Rodriguez†had two hits apiece.

The previous day in the tourney opener, NTCC got out to a seven-run lead and held on for an 8-6 victory over Blinn College. NTCC put up six runs in the fifth, with Rodriguez, Kyle Moos and Garcia leading the offense. Chandler Dean was the winning pitcher for NTCC. He surrendered two runs on four hits over five innings, striking out two. Jaxon Terrell, Kortendick, and Tyler Navarro all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Kortendick recorded the last three outs to earn the save for the Eagles.

Rodriguez and Garcia both homered for NTCC against Blinn and John Russ had four hits in four at bats. NTCC's defense went errorless in the game to help secure the victory.

The Eagles face off against San Jacinto college Monday at 5 p.m. for a shot at the tourney championship.††The winner of the tournament will represent Region 14 at the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.
