The Northeast Texas Community College Agriculture Department will host a Muscadine Workshop Friday, Feb. 16 at the NTCC Ag Complex. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon under the instruction of Master Gardener Rhonda Lesher.
Lesher is a Master Gardener with the Cypress Basin Master Gardeners, where she has partnered with Texas A&M University in the Earth Kind trials for Mucadines and other grape vines for Northeast Texas. Her lecture will be located in Ag Complex room 217, followed by hands-on pruning of the NTCC Muscadine Vineyard located at Ag Complex Small Farm Demo Site. Students should come to class dressed for the weather. After working in the vineyard, enjoy a muscadine jelly and a wine tasting, complete with recipes.
The class will cover muscadine grape production, care, pruning and crafting specialty products from muscadines. The cost is $10 per person if pre-registered or $15 per person on the day of the class.
