The Northeast Texas Community College Eagles (NTCC) softball team clinched a spot in the regional tournament this week as they split with Bossier Parish Community College Wednesday. The Eagles won four of 10 games played during an action-packed two weeks to wrap up their regular season. They will compete in the regional tournament in Lufkin beginning May 1.
The Eagles swept their series against Paris Junior College April 5 with Hailey Dixon giving up six hits and one unearned run in the first game, while the Eagles consistently filled the scoreboard with runs every other inning for a 3-1 victory. Caitlin Lites kicked off the second game and allowed four runs in seven innings before Dixon relieved her for the extra inning. The Eagles pulled ahead in the eighth and Dixon took the win 5-4.
The Lady Eagles dropped both games in their series against Navarro. Despite runners making it to scoring positions twice, the Eagles were unable to put runs on the board and the first game ended in a 3-0 defeat with Dixon taking the loss. The second game saw the Eagles pull into the lead in the second inning with two runs, but their batters were shut down by the Navarro offense and they ultimately lost 4-2.
NTCC split with TVCC last week. The first game saw the Eagles picking up seven hits but no runs until the seventh inning when Kelsey Moulder put one on the board for the Eagles. One run was not quite enough to seal the game and Dixon took the loss for the Eagles 4-1. The Eagles soared ahead in the second game with Lites shutting down the TVCC offense and allowing no runs to pick up a 6-0 victory.
The team dropped two in a non-conference series against Louisiana State University-Eunice last week. Game one was a shutout with the Bengals putting ten runs on the board to defeat the Eagles 10-0. Game two saw Abigail Jobe put up a strong showing from the mound for four innings before Lites relieved her for the final two. The game ended in a 7-5 defeat for the Eagles.
The team concluded their final home series with a split against Bossier on Wednesday. Dixon pitched a shutout during the first game and the Eagles put eleven runs on the board in four innings. The game ended on run rule in the fifth with the Eagles defeating BPCC 11-0.
Jobe and Lites split the pitching in the second game with three innings each. An early series of runs by BPCC put the Eagles behind and they were unable to close the gap before the end of the game. BPCC defeated the Eagles 7-1.
