Students in German 1311 learned German table customs in class today: saying ?Guten Appetit!? to fellow diners, or lifting your glass & saying ?Prost!? Germans, like other Europeans, eat with the fork in the left hand and the knife in the right hand,†and don?t switch back†and forth like Americans; and they don?t put ice cubes in their drinks. Of course it was more fun to practice with real food! After their 11:00 German class the students enjoyed Wiener mit Senf (German wieners with mustard), Sauerkraut, Kartoffelsalat (warm German potato salad), Roggenbrot mit Butter (buttered rye bread), and for dessert Schwarzwaelder Kirschkuchen mit Sahne (Black Forest cherry cake with whipped cream). Experiencing the culture ? especially the food ? is one of the best parts of learning a language!
