The Northeast Texas Community College (NTCC) †Eagles men's and women?s soccer teams wrapped up their regular seasons this week with one loss and one win against Coffeyville Community College on Wednesday. †The men?s team begins their postseason championship tournament next week.
The Lady Eagles (7-10-0) fought hard against the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens (12-4-1) in their final game of the season. The Eagles scored early in the game and maintained a one-point lead until the second half when the Ravens scored a goal and forced the game into overtime. The Eagles held the score to a tie into double overtime, when the Ravens swooped in with a game winning goal.
The NTCC men?s soccer team (3-6-0 overall) also played Coffeyville (13-4-0 overall, ranked 16) Wednesday following the women?s game. †NTCC forward Logan Humphries scored the first goal at 10 minutes into the game, assisted by Rimario Gordon. †NTCC scored again at 20 and 30 minutes, before Coffeyville scored their first and only goal at the 40-minute mark. NTCC scored three additional goals in the second half, finishing the game with a solid 6-1 victory over the higher ranked Coffeyville.
?We played the best soccer we?ve played all year ? said NTCC?s head soccer coach Donavan Dowling, who went on to say that he was proud of both teams? progress over this season and expects the men to be very competitive in the postseason championship. Dowling expects the men?s team to advance into the national top twenty as a result of the win this week.
The men will host the first of two Region 14 Championship games at the NTCC soccer field next Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 3:00 p.m. NTCC will play the loser of Friday's game between Coastal Bend College and Jacksonville College.
