This hybrid (combination of online and face-to-face instruction) course of study will prepare students for a career as a community pharmacy technician in a retail setting.
Upon completing the 288 hours of instruction, which includes an†80-hour supervised externship, students will be prepared to take the Texas Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.†According to the The Bureau of Labor Statistics†,†the †the average salary for pharmacy technicians in Texas is about $29,000 per year. These individuals perform duties such as processing prescription drug orders, patient medication record maintenance, issuing of medication to patients and inventory management.The pharmacy technician program is currently accepting applications for the first class, which begins on September 22. The cost of the program is $1,485 plus textbooks and scrubs. Limited financial aid may be available.
In order to be eligible to complete this course, applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and not have been convicted of a felony. Before admittance to the program, students must complete a basic skills assessment test, pass a background check and drug screening, provide current immunization records and negative TB test, and complete a CPR for healthcare providers course.
