PURPOSE:
The Dean of Workforce Education provides strategic leadership for credit workforce programs in business and technology and for continuing education in corporate training and personal enrichment. This role oversees program marketing, management, and curriculum design, and collaborates with business and industry partners to identify workforce needs, design innovative curricula, and develop educational programs that enhance employee skills and knowledge. The Dean also manages faculty recruitment, student outreach, and the operational logistics of major grants and contracts.
The Dean provides leadership for the following programs: Accounting, Agriculture, Auto Body Repair, Business Administration, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Electrical Occupations, Industrial Technology, Shelby Automotive Technology, and Welding.
In addition, the Dean directs continuing education and personal enrichment programs, overseeing curriculum development, instruction, facilities, personnel, and budget management. The Dean serves as liaison to external agencies, community organizations, and other college constituencies.
DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES:
- Supervise and evaluate assigned faculty and staff. Conduct workforce education research, including market analysis, data collection, and review of instructional innovations.
- Oversee business and technology programs, including course design and revision, resource identification, scheduling, registration, and evaluation.
- Recruit, recommend, and credential full-time and adjunct faculty in compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with businesses and industries to identify training needs and serve as the College’s liaison to those partners.
- Serve as the College’s representative to local workforce development boards.
- Coordinate and support the activities of program advisory committees.
- Provide leadership for corporate training and personal enrichment programs within Continuing Education.
- Identify and pursue grant funding opportunities related to workforce development.
- Serve as the Perkins Grant Project Director.
- Lead recruitment efforts for students in business and technology programs and coordinate related faculty recruitment activities.
- Advise students within areas of responsibility and serve as a public information resource.
- Coordinate annual and long-range departmental planning, budgeting, and evaluation processes.
- Assist students and others in resolving concerns and complaints.
- Ensure compliance with state-mandated performance measures and use data for continuous improvement.
- Maintain knowledge of and enforce college, state, and federal policies and procedures related to workforce education.
- Attend regional, state, and national meetings to promote professional growth and represent the College.
- Serve on institutional committees.
- Support the mission of the College as an active member of the Instructional Leadership Team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:
- Work may regularly exceed 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
- Maintain a visible and consistent on-campus presence during the standard work week.
- Remain accessible by phone, email, or text as needed, including evenings and weekends.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervises employees in Workforce Education.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and evaluating work; managing performance and discipline; and resolving employee concerns in accordance with institutional policies and applicable laws.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Master’s degree required.
- Must possess credentials qualifying for teaching in one of the division’s disciplines. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of accreditation processes (SACSCOC, THECB, and program-specific accrediting agencies).
- Working knowledge of the Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM).
- Experience in project management and adult education program design.
- Proven leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to design, implement, and assess innovative workforce programs.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong collaborative leadership style.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other instructional technologies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and exercise sound judgment.
- Adaptability to change and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
