Chief of Police

PURPOSE:

  • In conjunction with college administration, the Police Chief will develop and lead a "to be formed" Northeast Texas Community College Police Department. The safety and security of NTCC’s students, employees, and visitors will be the primary focus of the police department.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Chief of Police is a senior-level leadership position and will be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of the college approved, but not yet formed, police department. The Chief’s primary responsibilities will include the development and administration of policies, procedures, and practices that will maintain and enhance the security of the emergency management functions of the college.  The Chief supports and promotes Student Success initiatives for students, faculty, and staff.
  • The Chief of Police will be a forward-thinking leader who utilizes current and innovative methods of community policing and security services in a highly diverse environment in a manner appropriate for an institution of higher education.
  • The Chief of Police ensures enforcement and compliance with the laws of the State of Texas and College policies and procedures.

EXPERIENCE AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Ten years progressive law enforcement related work experience that includes five years of senior supervisory experience is required.
  • Direct experience with law enforcement in educational settings is preferred.
  • Current and in good-standing as a Peace Officer through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
  • Ability to obtain TCOLE Advanced Certification within six months of hire date
  • Valid Texas Driver's license in good standing.
