In a tightly contested matchup, runs were at a premium as both pitching staffs delivered strong performances. NTCC managed just six hits on the day but made them count, plating single runs in key moments to secure the win.
Freshman standout Drew Flores led the Eagles offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring a run. BJ Lumkins added an RBI, while Boston Seahorn also drove in a run to account for NTCC’s scoring.
On the mound, Kaleb Kuhn earned the win with an impressive six-inning outing. He allowed just one run on three hits while striking out eight. Kuhn worked around five walks, consistently making big pitches when it mattered most.
Tanner Webb came on in relief and shut the door over the final three innings to earn the save. Webb allowed just two hits and struck out three, keeping Alvin off the board down the stretch.
Defensively, the Eagles turned multiple double plays to help preserve the narrow lead, with Seahorn and Jonathon Kent playing key roles up the middle.
Head coach Andy Morgan credited his team’s composure and execution in the win.
“They competed the right way from the first pitch to the last,” Morgan said. “Kaleb gave us a great start, Tanner finished it off, and we made the plays we had to make defensively. In tournament baseball, it’s about doing the little things, and I thought we handled those moments really well today.”
The Eagles will play Navarro (who beat Wharton 16-8) in round two of the tournament on Friday at 6 p.m. Visit www.ntcc.edu/tourney26 for an updated bracket and general information.
