Board of Trustees holds January meeting

The Northeast Texas Community College Board of Trustees met Tuesday evening in a hybrid format, with some members attending in person and others participating via Zoom due to winter weather conditions. The student spotlight portion of the agenda was postponed until a future meeting due to the winter weather and campus closure.

President’s Report Highlights (Dr. Kevin Rose)

  • Spring semester is off to a strong start; faculty inservice was well attended and successful.
  • Campus was closed January 26th and 27th due to the winter storm.
  • Rose expressed appreciation for the hard-working faculty and staff who provided continuity of services during the weather event.
  • Dr. Rose reported on a Jan. 16 meeting with the president of East Texas A&M University focused on expanding transfer opportunities and partnership efforts.
  • The college has commissioned an economic impact study to assess its impact on the region, with results expected in early spring.

Additional Reports

  • The NTCC Foundation reported $189,570 in gifts and grants received in December.
  • Kim Irvin, vice president for student services, reported spring enrollment is very strong:
    • Headcount is up 11.8 percent compared to spring 2025.
    • Credit hours increased by 11 percent.

Board Action Items

  • Approved the consent agenda, which included Joint election agreements with other entities in the College district to assist with the May Board of Trustees election.
  • Approved renewal of the Foundation’s Management Liability Insurance provider with no increase in premium.
  • Approved the employment of Jennifer Hessner as a college navigator.
  • Agreed to continue using an online survey for the board’s annual evaluation; results will be discussed at a future meeting.
  • Called for the General Election for NTCC Board of Trustees (Place 2, 4, and 6), which will be held May 2, 2026.

The board concluded the meeting with a brief executive session to discuss real estate.
