From Mount Pleasant to Dallas, NTCC alumnus Yair Vega is building a successful career in the electrical industry while staying focused on lifelong growth. Yair, a graduate of Mount Pleasant ISD and the Northeast Texas Community College Electrical Technology program, joined NTCC's electrical program as a first-year student at Mount Pleasant High School and continued into the dual credit program during his second year.
While attending NTCC, Yair participated in the Work4College program for two years. His first year was spent maintaining the athletic fields, and during his second year, he worked at the Industrial Technology Training Center (ITTC), where he assisted instructors, helped around the shop, and spent extra time after hours practicing conduit bending to sharpen his skills.
Today, Yair works for Cummings Electrical in Dallas—a company he carefully researched before deciding it was the right fit because of its strong benefits, opportunities, and passion for the electrical trade. Yair says one of the things he loves most about electrical work is that "the ability to learn never ends." Beyond technical skills, he says NTCC taught him how to keep growing as both a professional and a person.
His long-term goal is to own his own electrical company and eventually teach electrical courses at the college or high school level to help develop the next generation of electricians.
Yair credits Electrical Instructor Tim Davis (pictured with Vega) as one of the biggest influences on his journey. "He taught me that it's not just about reaching your goals, but about enjoying the process of becoming the person you're meant to be. Goals give us direction, but growth happens every day." For Yair, success comes from putting in the work, staying consistent, and never stopping the pursuit of mastery.
